Our growing garden

May 29, 2012
We are having a great time watching everything grow. The kids are learning a lot about the way plants grow and the process. They really enjoy pushing their fingers in the dirt (to make a hole) then filling them with a seed and covering them back up. Alex gets really excited when he finds a ripe strawberry and gets to pick it and then eat it. We can't wait for all the fruit and veggies to be ready to pick.

Birdies

About the time we started our garden (which I think was the end of March) we noticed a couple of birds had taken residency right out side of our kitchen window. These two birds made their nest three times before they deemed it perfect. Turns out they had a good reason. Here are the debut pictures of the Birdies family's newest addition.

Torrey Pines State Reserve

Went to the most beautiful beach on Tuesday, Torrey Pines State Reserve.

We found seaweed and coral the waves washed up on shore. Once we looked further into the coral we found a bunch of starfish.

 The cliffs were breathtaking.

The boys enjoyed each others company.

It was a great family outing. Just what we needed.

Drip system and teepee

A couple of months ago I was at Home Depot and found a drip system on clearance. It had 164 pieces and was priced at $19.99. So I bought knowing we were going to plant our garden soon. Turns out it was a great deal because the one they sell now only has 64 pieces and is $29.99. We finally installed it which took like two days. Things are coming together little by little.
I built my first bean teepee. My Mom and I put it up this week. We used 12 6ft. bamboo poles and one roll of 200ft twine. Can't wait for the beans to start climbing.

Alex

We were getting ready to go to the farmers market on Thursday when I hear Joseph yelling. I ran in and found him sitting next to his Iron Man toy Iron Monger which had been completely disassembled.  After a few minutes of questioning Alex came clean and said he was responsible for disassembling it. Now if he could only put it back together.

JOSEPH

My almost 5 year old asked me to pick up his toys for him from the back yard. I began to say no you can get them, when he cut me off and said " look mom I do things for you like snuggling when you want. You get my toys for me or else maybe I wont snuggle anymore with you." Of course I was gonna go crazy and yell but then I stopped for a minute and thought, "well... I can not say anything and keep getting to snuggle for as long as he lets me, but on the other hand I can't believe he just figured out how to use snuggling as leverage." So I didn't say anything and guess what I have been getting extra snuggling. So as far as I am concerned it payed off to not get upset and just help pick up his toys. The lesson on bribery will be taught soon. I guess I have a lawyer in the making.
